Percussionist Garrett Arney‘s richness of sound identifies his sincerity and intellectual curiosity in his performance. His passion in developing the genre of percussion music has inspired many composers and musicians through creative collaboration and workshops. Garrett finds himself most at home in chamber music. As a co-founder of the acclaimed percussion group “arx duo”, Garrett has commissioned composers such as Ted Hearne, Jonathan Bailey Holland, and is working with others on upcoming projects such as Steven Mackey, Michael Gilbertson, and many more. Passionate about collaboration, he facilitates many projects that bring a variety of people together, creating a large community through music. As a past member of Ensemble Connect, Garrett performed the Carnegie Hall premiere of Steven Mackey’s Micro-Concerto, as well as many other performances through New Work City. He also served as a teaching artist for schools and community centers throughout the Five Boroughs, working with many artists, composers, and young musicians. A native of Michigan, he studied at Michigan State University, and also holds a masters from Peabody Conservatory, and an Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music.
